RECORDATI: APPROVAL GRANTED FOR THE USE OF CARBAGLU® IN THE TREATMENT OF ORGANIC ACIDAEMIAS

Orphan Europe has received approval from the European Commission to extend the use of Carbaglu® (carglumic acid) to treat hyperammonaemia due to one of the three main organic acidaemias (isovaleric acidaemia, methylmalonic acidaemia or propionic acidaemia). Carbaglu® has orphan drug designation and since 2003 is indicated in the treatment of NAGS deficiency.

US FDA approved Carbaglu

Orphan Europe, part of the Recordati group, announces that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Carbaglu® (carglumic acid) for use in paediatric and adult patients for the treatment of acute hyperammonaemia due to the deficiency of the hepatic enzyme N-acetylgutamate synthase (NAGS deficiency) and as maintenance therapy for chronic hyperammonaemia due to NAGS deficiency.

December 13th 2007 - Recordati S.p.A. announced the successful conclusion of its acquisition of Orphan Europe announced on 28 September last, following clearance from the relevant anti-trust authorities. The purchase price is € 135 million.
