It achieves this by providing training and educational activities for healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of patients affected by rare diseases.

A Programme Committee (PC) comprising both experts in rare diseases and Orphan Europe members governs the Academy. PC members have specific responsibility for the overall strategy and proposing new courses. A course programme committee (CPC) is appointed for each course and has responsibility for designing the programme and liaising with speakers. The PC meets bi-annually; they endorse programmes put forward by the CPC to ensure consistency and balance.
